Nexus 5X 32 GB vs iPhone SE 16 GB

My current work phone is a Lumia 925. Because it’s 2 years old, I can choose a new phone. This is a very hard choice, because I like the design of the iPhone, but I prefer Android above iOS. It would be an easy pick if I could choose the Nexus 6P, but the iPhone SE and the Nexus 5X are some really good competitors. I’ll use this blog post to help with my decision. Maybe it will help you as well.

Disadvantages Nexus 5X 32 GB vs iPhone SE 16 GB

Nexus 5X 32 GB

iPhone SE 16 GB

Design - Plastic design vs Aluminium design of the iPhone.

16 GB Internal Storage - not ideal when shooting 4K. But I use Spotify for music streaming and I upload pictures and videos to Cloud Storage.

Privacy - What will Google do with your data? Of course, Apple could use your dat as well, but Google is all about data.

Ecosystem - I’ve had an iPhone 4S a couple of years ago, but I like my Nexus 7 tablet I have at the moment.

Small battery life - probably need to carry a powerbank with me.

No Google Chrome - I use the Google Chrome browser on all my Windows PCs and my Nexus 7 tablet. This will sync my bookmarks and history between devices.

**Big Display **- The display is quite big. I had a Nexus 5 before my Lumia 925 with a 4.95" display which is fine. The Nexus 5X has a 5.2" display!

No Llama-like Apps without Jailbreak - I use this app to mute the phone when it’s charging between X time or open an app when connecting to Bluetooth carkit on Android.

Weight - 136g vs 113g for the iPhone SE.

No USB Standard - The Nexus 5X uses USB-C, so I have to replace all my existing cables. But I know when I buy a new Android tablet, I can reuse the cables.

Performance Issues - Andrew Martonik, AC’s West Coat editor, noted that “whether it was opening apps, scrolling heavy webpages or switching between different areas of the phone, everything seems to take a little longer than it should.”

**Small Display **- The iPhone has a 4" display. That’s 0.5" smaller than my Lumia 925.

Front-facing camera - Low quality

NFC Ring doesn’t work - The NFC Ring doesn’t work on the iPhone SE.

Low resolution - Nexus has a Full HD display (1920x1080) vs 1136‑by‑640 for the iPhone SE. BUT, the iPhone is a lot smaller.

Verdict

The Nexus 5X wins for me here. Let me know which phone you should pick or if I forgot to mention a disadvantage!
